The Lakewood Area Choral Society Scholarship is available to any Lakewood High School senior, a senior who has participated in a combined LACS concert, or a senior from an adjoining school district who is sponsored by an active choral society member.  The scholarship chair’s name, Jill Van Zyl, may be used if an active choral society member is not known.  The applicant upon graduation will pursue a major in vocal music education or voice at a four year, accredited institution.

Applicant(s) will be judged on the following criteria:  academic achievement, attendance, achievement and ability in vocal music, involvement in music related extra-curricular activities (school, community, church, etc.), financial need, personal interview, and 2 letters of recommendation, (one letter must be from your choral conductor). A monetary amount up to $1000.00 may be awarded.

Applications can be submitted electronically or printed and mailed by Wednesday, April 15, 2026 for consideration.  Applicants will be contacted by a Scholarship Committee Member.

Sabrina Harvey-Cronk, a graduate of Grand Ledge High School, is our Lakewood Area Choral Society scholarship winner for 2025. Sabrina studied under the direction of Mr. Zach Everly and will be attending Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana, majoring in Music Education. Sabrina has been actively involved in choir, musical theatre, and video production. She also held the position of president of her school’s acapella group, Orion’s Belt. Outside of her many school activities, she was a youth leader at her church, worship team lead, volunteered at the local humane society, and participated in community theater. Sabrina did all of this while keeping a 3.7 grade point average and working at two restaurants.

Sabrina’s recommendations were outstanding! Her choir director stated that she is one of the most outstanding students in the Grand Ledge music program, with a beautiful voice, and she was always one of the first to step up to lend a hand. Her business teacher/musical theater director also praised her. He shared that she has a strong work ethic, is energetic, always manages her time effectively, and works hard under pressure.

Building a strong, supportive program and creating spaces where others can find confidence and belonging through music is important to Sabrina. We are confident that Sabrina will be an exceptional vocal music educator.
