Sue Morton, Accompanist
Sue resides with her husband, Robert, and two children Sam (13) and Sierra (11) in the Gun Lake area. The Mortons moved to Michigan in 2009. Raised in rural Minnesota, Sue met Robert where they were both members of the Concert Choir at the University of Minnesota. Sue received her BA in Piano and Vocal Performance along with Music Education, and Robert received his BA in Piano Performance. After graduation, they resided in the Twin Cities for ten years and held positions at different churches as Directors of Music Ministry. Currently, Robert is the Director of Music and Worship at Gun Lake Community Church (GLCC).
Among her many awards, Sue was Accompanist of the Year in 1996 and again in 1997 at the University of Minnesota—Morris. Sue loves accompanying because she enjoys collaborating with other musicians, a love she discovered in college as she accompanied many vocal students for recitals, one of whom is now with the Sacramento Opera.
Sue has a private music studio, is the accompanist for Thornapple-Kellogg choirs, and volunteers as worship leader and directs seasonal adult and children’s choirs at GLCC. Although she loves all aspects of music making, accompanying is her passion. She is thrilled to be joining LACS and loves the level of musicianship, the quality of the singing, and Artistic Director and Conductor Robert Oster’s high expectations of, not only the accompanist, but every member of the choir.
